Website Statistics
Know how many people are coming to your site, from where they are coming, what keywords they are looking for, which are your most popular pages etc
In Internet Marketing, it is important to know where your visitors are coming from and where they are going. You want to be able to know how many people visit your site on a particular day, which pages are most popular and what time of day or what days of the week are more popular etc. This information can help you to decide where to advertise, what time to advertise and which advertising methods are most effective for you. You also want to be able to know which keywords are pulling in traffic from the search engines so you can determine which pages to optimize for which keywords.
Now let us see how to view the statistics for your site.In the main menu, there should be a link “Stats” (Unless you have deleted it) – Click on this to go to ~URL~/Stats.html and view your site statistics. This will show visitors by hour, day of week, browsers, operating systems, etc. This statistics is available to all your visitors. If you want to disable it, you can remove the stats link from the Main Menu Block (remember yesterday’s lesson). Just removing that link however will not be enough as the stats will still be accessible directly from ~URL~/Stats.html , we will learn how to configure your site so that the stats are accessible only to admin when we cover permissions.
Another interesting view to the most popular pages on your site can be seen by clicking on the "Top List" menu item. That will take you to ~URL~/Top_List.html - This page shows exactly how many hits your popular pages receive. When you have article submissions, this page will also list the most active users who submit articles to your site.
You must be wondering how to view the referrers, that is where you visitors are actually coming from. This is not present in the public stats, you will need to login as admin to view the referrer information, go to your admin panel and click on "HTTP Referers" – You can view detailed referrer statistics from here. Here you can see which site has sent you how many hits. You can also see what keywords people are using to find your site on the search engines. Some keywords would send you more hits than other keywords, you can view your site in the searchengine results and work on improving your position for the keywords that are fetching you your targeted visitors.
